Cover ups

If you are thinking about a cover up of an old tattoo on your shoulder, back, leg, etc., consider a few facts and tips before making a final decision:
01
The new tattoo will be larger and darker than the old one.
02
It is a difficult job that can only be entrusted to an experienced tattoo artist.
03
Think seriously about the design, the second cover up will be even more difficult.
04
It is not possible to cover old tattoos with skin color, because during healing the pigments mix and thus you will get a smudged stain.
05
You will have a limited choice of motifs and colors
06
In 80% of cases, tattoos cannot be covered without the use of laser removal.
Faded or simply light unsuccessful tattoos are covered with richer and darker colors. Dark colors cannot be overlaid with light colors - for example, black cannot be overlaid with pink. Over time, dark colors appear.

It is better to agree the design for the cover up with the tattoo artist. Prepare some pictures that you like or describe your idea. The tattoo artist will immediately tell you if your tattoo can be covered with what you like. It is possible to use an old tattoo as part of a new one.

In any case, pay attention to the designs that are close to the outlines of your tattoo. So you can cover the inscription on your hand with a new tattoo in the form of, for example, an intricate pattern, but on the contrary, it cannot be done. A good tattoo artist will tell you how to use your idea, whether it will be fully implemented or partially implemented.

In case of cover up old tattoos, it is very important to come to our studio for a free consultation, which you can book online on our website:

Tattoo spots

The most common are arm tattoos. Here you can highlight the shoulders, which are ideal for all medium-sized tattoos. This place is often combined with the forearm, you can create a whole sleeve starting on the shoulder and continuing on the forearm.

Every design fits on arms and has a great advantage: can be created symmetrical designs.
Small compositions are applied to the wrist.

For this place today, the most popular tattoo design is a bracelet in all its many variants - realistic, stylized, simple and multicolored, abstract, thin or wide.
Places where the skin is too thick, hardened and often changes are not suitable for tattoos. There are the feet, including the fingers and arch, the palm and the sides of the fingers. Due to the skin renewal, it is certain that the tattoo color will not stay in place and will fall out.

In the best case, you will have nothing left of the tattoo, in the worst case, particles of tattoo pigment will remain in your skin and you will be left with a faded shapeless stain. Tattoos will smear here.
Here you can make large tattoos on all your leg, or you can make small or medium tattoos on your knees, calves or ankles.

Symmetrical tattoos with a similar design on both legs also look beautiful.

The level of pain depends on the part of the leg. The knees, the inner surface of the thighs, ankles and feet are the leaders in terms of pain. But on the outside of the thighs and legs, the pain is no so big.
The back is a perfect canvas. They represent a space that is easy to work with. The tattoo can extend from the back to the neck, can be on the shoulder blades or on the back and is very easy to match with the tattoo on the neck or forearm.

On the spine and shoulders, tattoos are a little more painful due to the bones and a lot of nerve endings. Feelings are average in the rest of the back. Remember, however, that the pain threshold is individual. Some may fall asleep while the tattoo artist is working on the spine, but some will need to split into more sessions.
The tattoo can be over the entire neck or just on the side. If you want more prominent paintings or drawings, your tattoo can be guided from the neck and extend to the shoulder or back. The small design on the neck will look good as well as large and extravagant.
Some patterns can visually slim the neck.

The skin on the neck is thin, especially in the front. So a tattoo on the neck hurts.

Check list for select place

01
Think about how tattoos at a selected place can change over time or when you gain weight or lose weight.
02
Try not to choose places where the tattoo could fall out or dispersed (palms, fingers).
If you are determined to go for this, be prepared for the fact that you will have to renew your tattoos often.
03
Decide if you want to show your tattoos to others all the time. If not, choose places that you can cover with clothes.
04
Read about tattoo care. The neck heals more slowly due to the thin skin.
05
Krk is one of the most painful places, but it can be managed. After all, the pain will only be a few hours when applying a tattoo and you have a picture for life.

What needs to do before a session?

Decide exactly on the design.

Remember that a tattoo is a permanent image that will remain with you for a lifetime. Responsibly coordinate the design with the tattoo artist, tell us immediately if the design or place of the tattoo not suits you, or if you want to consult and change it again.

Be sure that you don't have allergies.

If the client did not inform the tattoo artist about the specific reactions of the body, client is responsible for that. Contraindications include skin diseases, diabetes, epilepsy.

Get a good sleep.

Practice announces that fatigue increases the perception of pain. A tired person hard to handle a tattoo and will dream of the end. The tattoo artist can works comfortably with a patient person.

Take comfortably clothes.

Shorts are suitable for tattoos on the legs and a T-shirt with short sleeves is suitable for tattooing on the arms. Clothing should be free so as not to create discomfort and push tattoos on the way home. We also do not recommend wearing your favorite bright clothes. Inks can drip on it and that can't be wash.

Eat well.

Feeling hungry and tired is one of the causes of psychoemotional exhaustion. In order to detect it is possible to tolerate stress, it can be the cause of pain.

Avoid stress.

If you decide for the first tattoo, then it is definitely a surprising event. Try to calm down and trust the tattoo artist. If it is still difficult for you, try to eat a few pieces of dark chocolate. This product stimulates the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is in a good mood and helps with relaxation.

Take with you a good book or movie.

Time passes faster during reading a book or watching videos. This approach welcomes you to escape the pain and have a more fun time sitting.

What you can't do before a session?

01
Don't drink alcohol.
Drinking alcohol is prohibited before and during the session. Withdrawal syndrome associated with tattoos will not bring you pleasure. The tattoo will bleed a lot, which will interfere with the work, and the pigment will not adhere to the skin properly. The day before the session, drinking is also not worth it. You will feel the pain much stronger.
02
Don't take medication.
Medications such as aspirin provide heavy bleeding during tattooing. The tattoo artist will often have to rub the tattoo while the stencil is erased and the skin is irritated.
03
Change the day of session if you feel ill.
Any illness will affect your pain. In addition, you should remember that you can infect tattoo artist.
04
Forget about drugs.
The tattoo artist will be forced to reject the client with a changed perception of reality.
05
Avoid sunbathing before session.
Visiting a solarium or sunbathing 2 days before a session is not recommended, as this may lead to a different skin reaction.

Tattoo care

50% of the quality of your new tattoo is up to you. Take care of it so that no correction is needed and everything has healed successfully.
The first day after the tattoo, your temperature may rise, redness or swelling may occur. It's just your body's defensive reaction.

Healing with diaper

01
after 2-3 hours it is necessary to remove the diaper
02
gently rinse the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap
03
сarefully dry the tattoo with paper towels
04
apply a thin layer of cream for healing tattoos (Bepanthen Plus or other)
05
apply the diaper
This procedure should be repeated 3-4 times a day for 3 days.
Remember to give the tattoo a "breathe" for at least half an hour between treatments. These days, excess color will come from the skin. No panic, it's normal!

Healing with film

01
leave the film for 3-4 days
02
with the film you can shower but not bathe
03
after 3-4 days, carefully remove the film
After 3 days you can skip the compress, but the tattoo mustn't be dry, continue to apply the cream for another 7-14 days. Only a small layer of cream will be enough. Apply just enough to keep the tattoo hydrated. The tattoo must breathe.

Very often during healing a "crust" appears on a tattoo. It is forbidden to tear off, scratch, steam it out, i.e. in any ways to get rid of "crust". In case of tearing it off the blank spaces, swortcuts or scars can appear on a tattoo.
During the healing process, it is not recommended to visit sauna, pools, or any open waters, washhouse, gym, and also avoid sunbeams falling on a tattoo.
We wish you a successful healing!
